2018 WNAR Student Paper Competition

Deadlines: Abstract submitted by Friday, May 11, 2018 and paper submitted by Friday, June 1, 2018.

Monetary prizes: Awarded to the best papers in written and oral competitions. All entrants will receive fee registration and a free banquet dinner ticket!

Eligibility: Papers may be submitted to the student paper competition by current students and recent graduates (graduation date not earlier than May 11, 2018) of programs in the WNAR Region (the western-most 13 U.S. states and 3 Canadian provinces) in biostatistics, statistics, or other applied mathematical fields having a biometric focus. All submitted papers must have been initiated in graduate school, where the bulk of the effort leading to the paper was put forth. Before submitting a paper, a student must register for the 2018 WNAR Meeting. Attendance at the conference is also required. Students must enter both the oral and written competitions. Students having previously won a WNAR student paper competition award are excluded from subsequent competitions. Students who wish to present a paper but do not wish to enter the competition may submit a contributed paper to the conference.

Submission of Abstracts: In order to enter the student paper competition, both an abstract and a paper must be submitted. The abstract must be submitted via the conference website by May 11, 2018 (11:59 pm, PDT). Please submit the abstract under the student paper category. Abstracts are limited to 250 words.

Submission of Manuscripts: Manuscripts should be prepared double-spaced, in manuscript format, using Biometrics guidelines for authors. They are limited to 10 pages including tables and figures, but exclusive of references. One-inch margins and at least 10-point font must be used. Reported research should be relevant to biometrics applications. The reported work must be that of the student, although collaborators may be co-authors, provided that the student is the first author. An electronic version of the paper should be sent to the Committee Chair with subject heading “WNAR Student Paper Competition". Papers must be received by June 1, 2018 (11:59 pm, PDT).
