Charges:

  • Develop an inaugural demographic survey for WNAR members (see survey disclaimers)
  • Coordinate Indigenous student travel awards
  • Continue hosting a satellite workshop in conjunction with the WNAR meeting for students

  • Develop plan to assess where WNAR needs to improve JEDI efforts

Upcoming Events

  • The 2026 WNAR Expanding Opportunities Workshop (June 13-June 14, 2026) is a satellite workshop held in conjunction with the WNAR Annual Meeting, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and belonging in quantitative fields. The 2026 workshop will provide a fun college experience to local native high school students, while creating opportunities for mentorship from peers, statistical researchers, and other members of the scientific community.

Past Events

  • WNAR 2025 Expanding Opportunities Workshop, June 15-16, 2025. This workshop focused on connect undergraduate students interested in quantitative fields with professional (bio)statisticians and data scientists in academia, government, and industry. Students from historically underrepresented groups were especially encouraged to apply. This workshop was funded in part by CANSSI with support from NSERC.

  • WNAR 2025 Invited Session "Empowering International Students: Insights from Early-Career Professionals". June 17, 2025. Organizer: Natalie Gasca


  • WNAR 2024 Diversity Workshop, June 9, 2024: This workshop focused on connecting underrepresented students interested in quantitative areas with professional (bio)statisticians in academia, government, and industry. The target audience included undergraduate and graduate students from historically underrepresented groups. This workshop was funded in part by CURE Epilepsy and SAS.
